Backups and restores

Backups are copies of your whole website, files and databases, that you can put back in one click. Your plan sets how many copies we keep.

Turn them on

  1. Open the website and click the Backups tile.
  2. Tick Backups on and choose How often: daily, weekly or monthly.
  3. Enter a passphrase and click Save backups.

Each copy is locked with your passphrase before it leaves our servers. Keep the passphrase somewhere safe, such as your password manager: without it, no copy can be restored, not even by us.

The Backups card: Backups on, Daily, a passphrase box, Save backups, and the list of copies with their dates and sizes.

Restore a copy

  1. Find the copy you want in the list.
  2. Type your passphrase in the box on its row and click Restore.
Restoring a backup: the passphrase typed on the newest copy’s row, next to its Restore button.

Restoring replaces the website’s current files and databases with the copy. Anything changed since that copy was made is lost, so if you’re not sure, download what you need with SFTP first (Upload files with SFTP).
