Upload files with SFTP

SFTP lets you upload and download your website’s files with an app such as FileZilla, Cyberduck or WinSCP.

Your SFTP login

Open the website and click the SFTP login tile. The SFTP Access card shows the host, username, password and port. Click the eye to show the password and the copy icons to copy each one.

The SFTP Access card: host, username, a hidden password with show and copy buttons, and port 22.

If it says SFTP is disabled, click Re-enable SFTP. To set a new password, or turn SFTP off, use the ⋯ menu on the right: Change password or Disable SFTP.

Connect with FileZilla

  1. Open FileZilla and go to File → Site Manager → New site.
  2. Set Protocol to SFTP – SSH File Transfer Protocol.
  3. Paste the Host, set Port to 22, set Logon Type to Normal, and paste the User and Password.
  4. Click Connect. The first time, FileZilla asks you to trust the server’s key: tick Always trust this host and click OK.

Where your files are

Your website’s files are in /sites/yourdomain.com/public. That folder is what visitors see. You can’t see other customers’ files, and they can’t see yours.

Use SFTP, not FTP: plain FTP isn’t offered because it sends your password unprotected.
