Point your domain at Ateculus

Your website is ready on Ateculus. To send visitors to it, add two records at the company that manages your domain’s DNS. It takes about five minutes.

Find your server’s address

Open your website in the control panel. Until your domain points here, the setup steps at the top show the two records to add, with your server’s IP address already filled in.

A new website in the Ateculus control panel: the setup step "Point northwind-catering.example here" lists two A records, @ and www, with the server IP address.

You can also find it any time under Website details → Server Information.

The Server Information card in the Ateculus control panel, showing the server IP address and hostname.

The two records

TypeNameValueWhat it does
A@your server’s IPSends yourdomain.com to your website
Awwwyour server’s IPSends www.yourdomain.com to your website

@ means the domain itself. Some providers write it as a blank name instead; the steps below say which.

Before adding them, delete any other A, AAAA or CNAME records for @ and www, such as a “parked” page from your registrar or your old host. Leave MX and TXT records alone: they handle your email.

Step by step for your provider

GoDaddy
  1. Sign in, go to Domain Portfolio and select your domain. This opens Domain Settings.
  2. Open the DNS tab.
  3. Find the A record named @. On a new domain it points to GoDaddy’s parked page. Click its Edit (pencil) icon, set Value to your server’s IP address and click Save.
  4. Look at www. GoDaddy usually has it as a CNAME pointing to @: leave that as it is, it follows the record you just changed. If www points anywhere else, delete it and add an A record with Name www and the same IP address.

If Domain Protection is on, GoDaddy asks for a verification code before it saves. Most changes work within an hour; GoDaddy allows up to 48 hours.

Namecheap
  1. Sign in, open Domain List and click Manage next to your domain.
  2. Open the Advanced DNS tab and find Host Records.
  3. Delete Namecheap’s parking records with the trash icon: the URL Redirect record on @ and the CNAME on www pointing to parkingpage.namecheap.com. Delete any other redirect, A or CNAME records on @ or www too.
  4. Click Add New Record, choose A Record, enter @ as the Host and your server’s IP address as the Value, then click the green check mark to save.
  5. Add a second A Record the same way, with Host www.

No Add New Record button means your domain’s DNS is managed somewhere else (see “Not sure where your DNS is managed?” below). Changes usually work within 30 minutes.

Cloudflare
  1. In the Cloudflare dashboard, select your domain and go to DNS → Records.
  2. Delete or edit any A, AAAA or CNAME records named @ (your domain) or www that point somewhere else.
  3. Click Add record: Type A, Name @, IPv4 address your server’s IP address.
  4. Switch Proxy status to DNS only (grey cloud), then Save.
  5. Do the same for www.

Keep both records on DNS only: Ateculus issues your website’s SSL certificate itself, and that needs visitors to reach your server directly. Cloudflare turns the proxy on by default, so check records it copied in when you added the domain.

Squarespace Domains (formerly Google Domains)
  1. Go to account.squarespace.com/domains, click your domain and open DNS → DNS Settings.
  2. If there’s a Squarespace Defaults preset, delete it with the trash can next to it. Squarespace asks for your password or two-step code, then to confirm.
  3. Under Custom Records, click Add record: Type A, Name @, IP Address your server’s IP address. Click Save.
  4. Add another A record with Name www.

Don’t delete your MX records: they deliver your email. Squarespace says changes can take 24 to 48 hours.

Porkbun
  1. Log in to Domain Management. On your domain, open Details and click the edit icon next to DNS Records.
  2. Under Current Records, delete Porkbun’s parking records (they point to pixie.porkbun.com) and any other A, ALIAS or CNAME records on your domain or www.
  3. Choose A – Address record, leave Host blank, enter your server’s IP address as the Answer and click Add.
  4. Add another with Host www.

Porkbun changes usually work within a few minutes.

Name.com
  1. Log in, open My Domains, click your domain and choose Manage DNS Records.
  2. Delete any A, AAAA, ANAME or CNAME records for your domain, www or * that point somewhere else.
  3. Add a record: Type A, leave Host blank, Answer your server’s IP address. Click Add Record.
  4. Add another with Host www.

Name.com says changes work within 24 hours.

IONOS
  1. Go to Domains & SSL, click the three dots under Actions next to your domain and choose DNS.
  2. On the A record for @, click the pencil icon, set Points to to your server’s IP address and click Save. Delete any AAAA records for @ and www.
  3. Do the same for www, or click Add record → A with Host name www if there isn’t one.

Use @ (or leave it empty) for your domain itself; never type the full domain name there. IONOS keeps one A record per name. Changes work within an hour.

Hover
  1. Sign in, open your domain and go to DNS.
  2. Delete Hover’s default records for @ and * (they point to 216.40.34.41): tick them, choose Bulk edit → Delete and confirm.
  3. Click Add a record: Type A, Hostname @, IP address your server’s IP address. Save.
  4. Add another with Hostname www.

Hover allows up to 24 to 48 hours.

Network Solutions
  1. Log in, go to Domains, select your domain, click Manage and open the DNS tab.
  2. On the A record for @, click the ⋮ menu → Edit, set Points to to your server’s IP address and click Edit to save.
  3. Do the same for www. If either is missing, click +Add Record, pick @ or www in Refers to and enter the IP address in Points to.

Network Solutions says changes take up to 2 hours.

Amazon Route 53
  1. In the Route 53 console, open Hosted zones and click your domain.
  2. Delete or edit any existing A records (including Alias records) and any CNAME on your domain or www.
  3. Click Create record: leave Record name blank, Record type A, Value your server’s IP address, TTL 300, Alias off. Click Create records.
  4. Create another with Record name www.

Leave the record name blank for your domain itself; Route 53 doesn’t use @. Changes reach Route 53’s servers within about a minute.

Not sure where your DNS is managed?

Usually it’s the company you bought the domain from. If you moved it, for example to Cloudflare, it’s there instead. Your domain’s nameservers tell you: look your domain up on any WHOIS site, and if the nameservers end in cloudflare.com, use the Cloudflare steps; domaincontrol.com is GoDaddy; registrar-servers.com is Namecheap.

Rather not manage DNS yourself? Ateculus can host your domain’s DNS: add the domain under DNS in the control panel and change its nameservers at your registrar to the ones it shows. The records for your website are then added for you.

After you’ve added them

  • Most changes work within an hour, some within minutes; a few providers allow up to 48 hours.
  • As soon as your domain reaches your website, Ateculus issues its SSL certificate by itself. There’s nothing to do.
  • The setup steps in the control panel tick off on their own. Click Check again to look right away.

Something not working?

  • “A record conflicts with a CNAME”: a name can’t have both. Delete the CNAME for that name first.
  • The old website still shows: there’s probably another A or AAAA record for the same name. Delete it, then give it time to clear.
  • SSL isn’t issued on Cloudflare: switch both records to DNS only (grey cloud).
  • Still stuck after a few hours? Open a support ticket in your control panel and we’ll look.
